I have been working with children and adolescents for the last 30 years within education. Whilst working with SEND adolescents in a FE college, I became concerned with the growing number of young people struggling unsupported with mental health issues which impacted on their learning. As a direct result of my experiences, I decided to undertake an MA Art Psychotherapy training in order to gain the skills necessary to offer therapeutic support through the arts.
I have had 3 years clinical experience with the mental health charity Place2Be, working with children and adolescents which allowed me to see the benefits of Art Therapy in practice and highlighted how early intervention can improve lives and prospects. I have also worked for 4.5 years therapeutically within Hertfordshire County Council’s in-school service, Safe Space. Through this service I was seconded to Step2 CAMHS for a number of months. Currently, I work through CAT within a junior school in Watford, a primary school in West Ham, London and an independent school in Essex, as well as having my own private practice.
I aim to build a good rapport and work in a friendly, warm manner enabling the client to feel safe enough to express and explore their often difficult, painful emotions.
